On Wednesday 19th October we will be hosting our popular ‘International Evening’ event from 4-5.30pm, where we celebrate the dynamic and diverse community that we have at Thornton Heath Nursery School. We would love all of our families to sign-up and bring in a traditional dish from their home country, so that we can all have a taste! We will be entertaining our families with the finest Djembe drummers in Croydon; a group of children from Ecclesbourne Primary School! We will also have a Face Painting station, music and different foods to try. It is also our ‘Represent your country’ day so please dress your children in clothes which represent their country/countries or cultures.
Last week, Nadia sent home an activity to help some of our children to recognise their name and develop their fine motor skills. The children and families have loved using this at home and we have seen the impact of their new skills in nursery. Please feel free to borrow our other 'Home Learning Packs' for more activities you can try at home with your child.
Well done to the children, families and staff at THNS for raising a whopping £130 for MacMillan Cancer Support! All children left nursery today, happily munching on a cupcake. A BIG thanks to all those who donated cakes, money and joined us for our coffee morning and afternoon.
Ahoy there! The children of THNS have been busy this week making and reading maps, digging for buried treasure, dressing up as pirates and creating their own 'Jolly Roger' flags. A new pirate language has erupted throughout the nursery and truly captured the children's imaginations. Shiver me timbers!
Last week based on the children's interest in camping, they made tomato soup and then heated it up on our fire pit. They watched the adults build and safely manage the fire, learning how to keep themselves safe. Staff encouraged the children to use their senses to smell the fire, feel the heat, listen to the crackles of the kindling and taste their homemade soup. Yummy!
Thank you to the parents who came in for our Parent Gardening Club today. They helped us to clear 4 bags of garden waste and we planted over 50 daffodil bulbs, which are sure to make the THNS garden look fabulous in Spring. Next time we will be planting Winter vegetables... yum! It was lovely to see the interaction between our children and families whilst digging and planting together. Please look at our Gardening Club photo page, where you will see our progress this year.
Today all of our children and staff wore their jeans to Nursery to raise money for the 'Jeans for Genes' charity, which supports children in the UK with genetic disorders. We beat our target from last year and raised £60 today for this worthwhile cause. Well done, THNS!
This week some of our children and their families were celebrating Eid ul adha. We hope you had a fantastic 3 days of celebrations and we would love to see any photos you may have taken at home. We celebrated by sharing dates during our snack time and reading stories about Eid. Eid Mubarak from THNS!
Welcome back to THNS! A special welcome to our new children and families who are starting this half term. Please check our website for all the exciting events we have planned this term. We only have two places left for two-year olds so if you know of any eligible families then please ask them to come in and speak to Jo.
All the staff at THNS would like to wish our children and their families and safe, happy and healthy Summer break. Please also have a look at the photos from our fabulous end of year picnic on our 'Galleries' page. We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 7th September - morning session (8.30-11.30), afternoon session (12.30-3.30), full-time (8.30-3.30). See you then!
A HUGE thank you from the children, families and staff at THNS to our Head of Nursery, Debbie Butler who has now become Head of School at Beulah Nursery and Infant School. We'd also like to thank Margaret Scanlan for all of her support and commitment to THNS over her term as a Governor. We are grateful for all of their hard work and support and know that they will both continue to be great friends of THNS.
