Wellbeing

At Thornton Heath Nursery School, we believe that promoting wellbeing in the early years
is the foundation for lifelong learning, emotional resilience, and positive relationships.
Children’s wellbeing is not only central to their happiness and development but also
underpins their ability to engage, explore, and thrive

We are committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels
safe, valued, and supported. Through strong relationships with trusted adults, consistent
routines, and emotionally responsive practice, we help children build the confidence and
security they need to express themselves, manage their feelings, and form meaningful
connections with others.
By placing wellbeing at the heart of our approach, we foster a positive sense of self, support
children to become emotionally literate, and lay the groundwork for future success—in
learning and in life.

Wellbeing pledge

To show our ongoing commitment, we’ve shared our Thornton Heath Nursery School  Wellbeing Pledges, which outline how we support mental health and wellbeing every day at nursery. These pledges are designed for children, families and our staff,  ensuring that everyone in our community feels supported.

Wellbeing pledge: Children

Wellbeing pledge: Families

Wellbeing pledge: Early Years Staff

Through each of these pledges, we affirm our dedication to every child’s emotional well-being as a foundation for lifelong learning and success, recognising that the wellbeing of all stakeholders is fundamental to securing positive outcomes.

Wellbeing mark

We are proud to have been awarded the Croydon Wellbeing Mark in June 2025. This recognition is given to schools that show a clear and sustained commitment to promoting the wellbeing of their entire school community. The award is built around five core commitments: developing a wellbeing pledge, carrying out an audit to identify improvement areas, engaging in wellbeing-focused CPD, appointing wellbeing champions within the school, and contributing to local surveys that inform future priorities across the borough. We are delighted that our ongoing efforts to support wellbeing have been acknowledged by the Croydon Education Partnership.
