Safeguarding

Ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do.

At Thornton Heath Nursery School, every member of staff takes personal responsibility each day to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children. We are fully committed to safeguarding and take our duty of care extremely seriously. Staff receive regular training and updates to remain informed of the latest guidance and legal requirements.

We do this through:

  • Having robust procedures for reporting and acting upon any safeguarding disclosures
  • Meeting Health and Safety standards
  • Undertaking DBS checks all staff, students, governors and volunteers
  • Ensuring that essential training is kept up to date (paediatric first aid, food safety, safeguarding etc)
  • Securing our site, including data protection
  • Liaising with outside agencies – Health Visitors, Social Care, SEN Services
  • Meeting our Prevent Duty requirements

Safeguarding Children Statement

At Thornton Heath Nursery School, the health, safety, and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children can thrive. To achieve this, we ensure robust policies, effective procedures, ongoing staff training, and consistent monitoring are firmly in place across our school.

Safeguarding means protecting children from all forms of harm—whether that be abuse, bullying, harassment, or discrimination. We strive to ensure that all feel safe in our school and are supported to develop with confidence and security.

Our school fosters a positive and caring ethos that promotes each child’s social, emotional, physical, and moral development. We are proud of the strong safeguarding culture embedded within our setting and take a proactive, child-centred approach in all that we do.

This approach means that:

  • All safeguarding procedures are shaped by the wishes, feelings, and best interests of the children.

  • Children are encouraged to express themselves, and we actively listen to their voices, taking their views seriously and working in partnership with them to meet their needs.

There may be occasions when we have concerns about a child’s welfare. In such instances, we may need to seek advice or support from other agencies to ensure the child’s safety and protection.
