Attendance

Places at Thornton Heath Nursery School are in high demand and we have waiting lists in all categories – 2 year olds, 3 & 4 year olds and full time ‘top up’.  It is the responsibility of parents and carers to make the most of their place at school and this means that your child should attend every day and be on time.

We expect children to attend for all their allocated sessions and we monitor any children with below 95% attendance.  If no explanation is given for absence our office staff will call to check why your child is away so please call us as soon as you know that your child will not be able to come to school on any given day. Remember that every school day counts in helping to make sure that your child is properly prepared for when they start full time schooling.

We celebrate good attendance in school by awarding children with a certificate and a prize each term, if they have attended nursery every day.

Please note that because education for pre school children is not required by law THNS reserve the right, after working with a family to try to improve matters, to withdraw a child’s place for reasons of poor attendance below 95%.  Places at our school are in high demand and another family may be able to better benefit from the offer of a place.  Please speak to the Head of Nursery if you need any further guidance about our requirements for regular attendance.
