This week we welcomed back the Ladybirds after the Spring break, it was so nice to see so many happy and smiling faces. The children were excited to see their friends and quickly settled back into Nursery life, following routines and participating in lots of exciting play based learning.
The children have been very busy and have enjoyed exploring a variety of activities. We have been using different patterned paint rollers and prime colours to create works of art. They used their fine motor skills to hold the rollers and dipped and rolled them in the paint, before rolling it along their paper to make a printed pattern. Some children were able to recognise and name the colours they were using, they explored and experimented by mixing the colours together. We talked about the new colours they had made.
Using our imaginations we moulded playdough into faces, lollipops, cakes and many other things. The children carefully selected the resources they wanted to use, choosing pipe cleaners, lollipop sticks, coloured matchsticks, milk bottle tops and rolling pins. These items were used to represent facial features, candles and sprinkles on their chosen creation.
Due to the wet weather, whilst outside we found some snails and the children showed a keen interest. The snails were put in a black tray so that the children could closely observe them slithering around and see the trails that they left behind. There were different sized snails, so the children were able to compare them, and an adult was able to talk about size, some of the children were very brave and picked the snails up, remembering to be very careful and others just watched.
