Welcome Back to Nursery!
Welcome back everyone, and a huge, warm welcome to all of our new nursery children and families!
We are so excited for the year ahead. Our theme for this term is ‘Marvellous Me!’ The children will be exploring who they are, what makes them unique, and the world around them through lots of fun, hands-on activities.
Settling In and Helping Hands
This week has been all about transitions and teamwork. Our new children have done a fantastic job settling into their new routines. We are also incredibly proud of our returning children, who have been wonderful helpers. They have been showing their new friends where things belong, how we line up, and how we sit together beautifully for story and snack time.
What We Have Done This Week
To kick off our theme, we have been talking about our families and where we live. The children have jumped into several creative activities to express themselves through:
Marvellous Playdough Faces: The children showed great focus and engagement using different coloured playdough and face templates to create self-portraits. They loved exploring the textures and using their hands to mould shapes for their eyes, nose, and mouth. While some children benefited from a little guidance to place their facial features, others confidently tried it all by themselves. The children are showing fantastic development in their fine motor skills.
Building Our Homes: In the construction area, we shared a lovely group discussion about ‘Our Homes’. We talked about whether we live in a flat or a house, how many bedrooms we have, and what our homes look like. Inspired by our chat, the children built their own houses and worked together to create a town. We had some wonderful imagination on display, with one child sharing: “I have lots of bedrooms at my house, it’s BIG! It looks like a tower!” before stacking bricks and adding train tracks, people, and trees to build a bustling road.
Drawing Myself and My Family: The children put pencil to paper this week as they proudly drew pictures of themselves and their families. This activity was a wonderful way for them to practice their pencil grip and spatial awareness. As they drew, the children loved sharing stories about who lives in their house, talking about their parents and their siblings! It was beautiful to see their confidence grow as they carefully chose colours and details to represent the people most important to them. Their wonderful creations are a fantastic showcase of their early writing and drawing skills.
