Today it snowed ……… indoors!

The Ladybird Room is now officially ready for the festive season!

With little voices joyfully singing “I’m a Little Snowman” and “When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney,” the baubles have been hung, the lights arranged, and the tinsel carefully draped.

Over the past two weeks, the Ladybird class has been very busy preparing for the holidays. Our staff have thoughtfully planned a range of inviting activities that naturally support children’s fine motor development, early mathematical thinking, language and communication, and expressive arts and design. It has been a wonderful opportunity to highlight the rich learning that happens every day through our play-based approach.

Last Wednesday, we held our Christmas crafting session, where carers joined us to make festive decorations. Carers should also be prepared for a delightful surprise, as the children have been creating some secret gifts and cards over the past fortnight. The children have also enjoyed decorating biscuits to take home and share with their families.

In addition, the class has been busy building our traditional snowman using different-sized boxes and practising their festive songs in preparation for our sing-along this Friday at St. Albans Church. This special annual event brings together children, their families, carers, and nursery staff for a joyful celebration. The church fills with the sound of everyone singing it truly is magical

To finish off the week, the children explored a big red tray filled with shredded paper as they searched for hidden sensory toys. It was a little messy, but they had so much fun!

When Jenette entered the room and saw the snowy scene, she began singing one of our Christmas songs and gently tossed some of the paper into the air. The children didn’t need much encouragement—they soon joined in, and before we knew it, paper was everywhere! It was snowing in the Ladybird Room.

Both the children and the adults had a wonderful time, and our room turned completely white. When the activity was over, the children did a fantastic job helping to tidy up the mess.
