To the Moon we Go

This week, the Ladybird class continued to read ‘Whatever Next’ and participated in various activities related to the story. They created a giant rocket from a large cardboard box, choosing silver, blue, and yellow paint before adding different coloured paper to it. This activity allowed the children to develop fine motor skills and explore attaching items with sticky tape or glue.

Props from the story were available for independent access, encouraging the children to retell the story in their own words, make changes, and think about what foods they would take for a lunar picnic, or which animal might join them on their journey. This has helped enhance their thinking skills and decision-making abilities, giving them a head start for the future. The week concluded with a little picnic, just like in the story, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They delighted in sharing their imaginary lunar adventures and discussing what they would bring along if they were to visit the moon themselves.

In addition to these activities, the children were also encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to create a space rocket like Baby Bear’s. They used various materials, such as coloured card, felt-tip pens, glitter, glue, and sequins to decorate their rockets in unique and imaginative ways. They also made a stunning background by flicking different coloured paint onto black paper, simulating a starry night sky.

On Wednesday, the Ladybird class had their photos taken. The children were very sensible while waiting for their turn and gave the biggest smiles to the photographer. Well done, children, for a fantastic and creative week filled with learning and fun!
