This week saw Thornton Heath Nursery School’s first International Celebration of the year. Our community is a source of strength and the diversity of our children and their families a source of learning, joy and fun! As multiple generations of family come together to share costume, food and music we forge new connections and deepen existing relationships.
Some vitamin tube rocket launches earlier in the week led to some learning and play around space shuttles and space missions. Control panels were constructed and space missions completed as Thornton Heath’s youngest astronauts counted down and up to successive launches throughout the week.
Our snack time helpers are now using specially sourced knives to prepare fruit and vegetables for snack time; developing number skills as slices, segments and chunks are shared out and presented on snack trays. This tricky task also develops fine motor strength and skill. Coming together in small group tasks throughout nursery sessions give us the opportunity to come together to share ideas, tell stories and to give and listen to instructions.
