Spring is Here!

This week a friend spoke about their birthday tea…and a surprise visit from Australian animation superstar Bluey. This led to a conversation about favourite characters and episodes. One of the children had recently  watched a documentary about another famous Australian…the  Kangaroo! Some Kangaroo claims were made which sounded too strange to be true…Do Kangaroo mummies really put their babies inside a pocket? Do Kangaroos really punch each other in the face? Why do they jump instead of run? With the help of some books from the library and BBC footage, we learnt about the licking of arms to stay cool, babies being born before their legs have even grown, and why the naughty male kangaroos do so much punching and kicking!  We measured out 13 metres in the garden, so as to see just how far a single Kangaroo jump can take one, before seeing how many jumps it took us to equal the distance….Physical fun, number fun and understanding of the world fun…All wrapped up in a wonderful conversation!

With the last day of Winter this week, more bulbs have been planted as we prepare for Summer in our garden. The digging area has been a hive of activity with more rubble being discovered, removed, sorted and cleaned. Two bumble bees have been spotted so far and the neighbourhood crows have started their noisy arguments with the naughty magpies!
