This week, the children have been captivated by the new story ‘Shark in the Park’. They are thoroughly enjoying it and can’t seem to get enough of it. The story follows a little boy who goes to the park with his new toy, a telescope, and each time he looks through it, he thinks he sees a shark. Inspired by the story, the children have eagerly made their own telescopes to use in the garden next week. They can’t wait to look through their telescopes and excitedly tell the adults what they can see. I wonder if there will be any sharks in our garden? This activity will not only spark their imagination but also help the children develop their language and understanding skills.
The weather has been extremely hot, and the children have kept cool in the summer heat with lots of water play, water jets, and nursery-made paddling pools. Transporting water, filling and emptying containers, creating flowing rivers, and connecting pipes all form valuable experiences in size and capacity. These activities provide wonderful exercise for fine motor muscles and great fun with friends, making it a truly cross-curricular activity. The children have also enjoyed splashing around and playing various water games, creating lasting memories and strengthening their bonds with one another. It’s been a delightful way to beat the heat and engage in playful learning.
We also embarked on a fun and educational activity where we made a delicious smoothie. The children were encouraged to participate actively in the preparation process. We began by identifying the fruits we would use, strawberries, bananas, and blueberries, along with some refreshing apple juice. Each child was provided with their own plate, plastic cutting tool, bowl, and a selection of fruit to cut up. After thoroughly cleaning their hands, the children sat nicely at the table, waiting patiently for their turn. A piece of fruit was placed on each plate, and the children were encouraged to cut it up before placing it in a bowl. Once all the fruit was cut and placed in the bowl, an adult transferred it into a jug and added the apple juice. Using a hand blender, an adult mixed the chopped fruit and apple juice together to create the smoothie. Each child then had a chance to taste and enjoy their freshly made smoothie. Well done, ladybirds!
