We are thrilled to share the exciting activities we had this week in the two-year-old room! Our exploration of local ‘Heroes’ within our community was a fantastic learning experience. Setting up a role-play medical centre gave the children an opportunity to not just play but also talk about their experiences at the doctors and within healthcare. The children delighted in role-playing with their friends, focusing on healing each other, the dolls and the adults within the room by applying bandages, giving injections and administering fast-acting medicines. Using our imagination and creativity, we assumed various roles, displayed empathy, worked collaboratively and developed our communication skills.
Our exploration of local ‘Heroes’ continued with looking at photos of firefighters, police officers, doctors and dentists. The children were encouraged to talk about what they could see and discuss how these professionals help people in the community. We felt this was important to ensure the children can keep themselves safe and know who they can rely upon in an emergency.
The children also participated in a cooking activity and made vanilla biscuits. They needed no reminders of hygiene routines, washing and drying their hands before cooking! The children listened and followed simple instructions, waiting patiently for their turn. They mixed softened butter and sugar together using a wooden spoon, added the egg and vanilla extract and lastly sifted the flour into the mixture. We all took turns to mix everything together, ensuring there were no lumps left. The mixture was then carefully spooned onto a baking tray by the children, ready to go into the oven. The nursery smelt so good while they were cooking! When the biscuits were cooked, they were taken out of the oven to cool. The children took their vanilla biscuits home to share with their families. We hope you enjoyed them.
