Our first tomato harvest called for pizza making; this week it was time for something different.
With Humpty Dumpty as our nursery rhyme this week there was some flagrant egg smashing taking place…however wasting food is not the THNS way, we embed sustainability and responsibility into all the fun and experiences in the nursery room. Whilst there was some sympathy for Humpty, we all agreed we had to eat him.
So with an abundance of eggs….it was pasta time!
From forming flour volcanoes like Jamie Oliver, to whisking, kneading, stretching and punching the pasta dough, the children created their snack time treat from scratch. The sauce consisted of fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden. Some egg free pasta was formed for our friends who don’t eat eggs and the spaghetti feast was enjoyed by all!
Fine motor exercise, maths, communication and language, knowledge and understanding of the world; THNS children are not the scientists, chefs, farmers and responsible citizens of tomorrow….they are all those things today.
Healthy bodies and minds begin with understanding and appreciating the food we grow and eat…along with understanding and appreciating each other as we share the process, the fun and the food together.
