Gloves were the order of the week as the temperature dropped. The garden remained busy thanks to self care and vigilant friends; ensuring we all wrapped up and stayed warm and comfortable. If staying warm didn’t quite work out our snack time; luxurious and nutritious in equal measures, did the job. Warmly spiced, roasted sweet potato and freshly baked bubble bread helped to fend off the winter chill!
There was further electrical investigation in the treasure chest this week with components being sorted, connected, tested…and the circular nature of a circuit being discussed at length!
Icey conditions led to Icey investigations as pools of water around the garden surrendered to the cold, offering us the opportunity to handle and observe increasingly bigger chunks and sheets of ice. Fabulous sensory experience and a wonderful talking point to build oracy skills!
Last Summer, Yusuf and his family adopted two of the hatchlings from our living eggs experience. “Daddy built a house in the garden and now the chickens chase us!” Yusuf laughs.
This week, came our second delivery of eggs from Yusuf’s naughty chickens!
We counted carefully…six eggs for today. Arranging two groups of three. The children were then encouraged to use two hands and their fingers to display two groups of three. Are there any other ways we can show six?
Holding our hands aloft, shoulder width apart, we slowly brought our two groups of three together: “Three and three, together makes six!”
The children enjoyed seeing the eggs crack, observing the vibrantly coloured yolk. Our baking and food prep is usually very hands on, however handling eggs is one to observe!
The children took their turn whisking as the bowl was passed around the circle in a heart warming display of patience and turn taking,
“Hold the bowl with one hand, whisk with the other! 1,2,3 Pass it on!”
