Our Wonderful World discussions continued this week with one of our favourite information books, “Volcanoes” from the Usborne beginners range. Paintings, action packed role play, and some letter v writing followed…not to mention some “scientific observation” of volcanic eruption footage. We made links between the bubbles in our bubble bread and the bubbles in the lava. Both sets of bubbles “expand” as they grow hotter and hotter until…”bang!”
As reception class beckons in a matter of months, many of our children are exploring Little Wandle’s phase 2 phonics resources. We listen for the sounds made by letters and recognise them amongst our names, our nursery room resources and some strange items which end up in cooking pots and pink princess bags! We are all strengthening our writing muscles through both fine motor play and mark making with a variety of tools and media!
A pop up shop popped up in the nursery room this week. With a stock list more extensive than Harrods and a price list more budget than Asda, the children were quids, dollars and even ” dollar bucks” in. Setting prices, challenging prices and checking one’s change meant plenty of number challenge and talk throughout the week.
