Welcome back to the nursery! Over the last few weeks we have welcomed back old friends and are making new ones, as children join our nursery community. We hope you have all had a good summer and have done lots of exciting things.
The children have been very busy. They have been learning the routines of the day and exploring their environment. They are forming good relationships with both adults and other children. We are looking forward to working in partnership with parents to ensure that the children have the best start possible to their educational journey.
We have been using different tools and prime colours to create works of art. They used their fine motor skills to hold the brushes, sponges and string and dipped and rolled them in the paint, before making their marks on the paper to make a printed pattern. Some children were able to recognise and name the colours they were using, they explored and experimented with mixing the colours together. We talked about the new colours they had made.
The children have had lots of opportunities to explore their environment physically whilst using their senses. We have been climbing, hitting balls with bats and spinning hoops. Our lovely sports coach Debbie was teaching the children limbo this week and they had lots of fun trying this. The children had to move their bodies different ways and use their problem-solving skills to move under or over the pole. They have also had lots of different messy play and have enjoyed exploring the different textures.
Our kind parents have been bringing in lots of natural materials such as conker’s, acorns and fir cones which will help enrich the children’s vocabulary through staff modelling new vocabulary to describe the autumnal materials for example spiky, prickly, rough, smooth etc we will also be using these items to introduce some early maths concepts.
