Animal Kingdom

Our theme this term is “Our Wonderful World.” Over the past two weeks, the children have been learning about animals, with a particular focus on polar bears and penguins. They have taken part in a wide range of engaging, play-based activities designed to support their learning and development.

The children have enjoyed listening to stories about these animals, creating animal footprints in dough, and role-playing with animals in jelly. They also explored different textures using a black tray to learn about ice and melting. Short video clips helped the children learn about the animals’ habitats, what they eat, and how they keep warm. These activities encouraged lots of discussion and introduced new vocabulary, helping to enrich the children’s language development. We have also been focusing on the letter sound “P”.

A treasure basket containing the animals was introduced, supporting the children’s understanding of number, size, and early mathematical concepts. It has been a very busy and exciting time, and the children have learned so much through hands-on experiences.

In addition, the children have really enjoyed a role-play area set up as a pizza parlour. They have taken on roles such as customer, chef, and waitress, which has helped develop their language, early maths, and mark-making skills. The children practiced handling money, taking orders, and communicating with one another. To finish the week, the children will be making pizzas again, giving them even more opportunities to learn through fun, meaningful play.
