Flowers and Fun

From our future engineers connecting pipes and channelling water, to tomorrow’s hair stylists and visual artists roleplaying, creating and problem solving; the learning opportunities, experiences and role play scenarios which are part and parcel of every nursery session stretch, engage, challenge and develop every child within the nursery community.

As the academic year comes closer to it’s conclusion, it is a real joy to observe and be a part of the independent and guided exploration which continues at THNS.

With our natural spaces in full bloom, poppy seed pods are observed changing colour, ladybird pupa are searched out and counted and our gardens’ pollinators are observed and discussed at great length.

As the children grow in strength and skill, our bridges, high walk ways, rope ladders and climbing walls continue to challenge and offer changing opportunities for all; as one skill is mastered there is another skill on the horizon. Smaller movements are equally important to master and just as challenging. The small part collections and malleable materials are manipulated and moved giving valuable fine motor practice and small muscle workouts.

Our surviving sunflowers are magnificent and visible from the street over our fences, they offer valuable practice in comparison based measuring; what was shorter than the children last week has now grown taller than our tallest teacher!  Tomatoes are ripening, chillies are transforming in a variety of colours and the raspberries are being snapped up by eager children before the birds can get their share.

Requests were made this week for different role play scenarios and resources. Our heroes discussions led to a fire engine and crew being dispatched around the playground to extinguish fires and save cats from trees. Some hair care issues led to a full saloon being set up outside… with both conservative and more flamboyant styles being catered to…

Friday saw Coach Debbie and her parachute bringing everybody together for some teamwork fun and games!
