Field To Fork!

Welcome back old friends and welcome new ones!

Last year’s youngest pupils are now our eldest! Unlike most nursery classes attached to a primary school, Thornton Heath Nursery School has multiple intakes throughout the academic year. This means many children have up to two terms from their 3rd birthday to explore and access our big nursery room and gardens before their nursery year even starts; from being guided and supported by their older friends, these children are now emerging as leaders, teachers and supportive friends to a new cohort of younger children.

From planting tomato seeds in February, caring for seedlings and planting out throughout the summer… to harvesting last week…the children’s work is not done yet.  What better way to welcome new friends than a pizza party using tomatoes planted and cared for by the children?
This week, we have gathered different sized collections of tomatoes. Sorting by colour, size and shape.
The dough was made on Tuesday, using our developing muscles and control to combine the carefully counted cups of ingredients.
Wednesday came the pizza party; all fresh and… short of reaching into hot ovens (which was left to the adults)…..100% the children’s work.
