Bees and Cherries

With bean, poppy, pumpkin and tomato flowers in full bloom the bumble bees have been as busy as the children of Thornton Heath Nursery School. Intermittent rain and sun has not put off garden growth nor the growth of the children! As our plants have flourished with sun and rain, the children donned their waterproof clothing and it was business as usual.

With buff tailed bumble bees, stag beetles, ladybirds in every stage of their life cycle…and the tiniest of baby grass hoppers all present in the garden, there has, as always, been lots to observe, lots to do and lots to talk about!

Sorting collections forms an important part of our learning at THNS. From collections of freshly picked cherries, to collections of Hot Wheels Monster Trucks there is always something to enthuse children of all tastes. Handling quantities means we are data handlers- recognising similarities and differences and sorting accordingly. More often than not there are numerals involved as we group, share and subitise  with purpose, fun and energy!  As we do, we talk; building communication skills as well as understanding of the tasks in hand and most importantly understanding each other; by working together, sometimes struggling together… but eventually succeeding  together.
