It’s not often we are outside in our t shirts in November. But a mild midweek, coupled with high octane fun at the nursery meant we were feeling the heat. By Friday, we were head to toe in water proofs and stuck in the mud, as storm Claudia arrived with her rainy weather.
The treasure chest contained electronics this week; the children lifted the chest and were presented with a pile of batteries, cables and components. A wonderful opportunity to develop our oracy skills through problem solving and sharing: Were the components recognisable? How can we find out what each item does? Is it really safe to continue? Once safety checks and sorting (along with counting quantities and numeral matching) was complete, it was circuitry time. A simple, fabulous scientific investigation.
Snack time bubble bread, made by the children from carefully counted ingredients (including the famously sticky, bubbly yeast), was coupled with butternut squash this week. Recognisable to some, it was chopped, observed, smelt, stroked and even licked before being roasted and enjoyed by many. In a bold move, many children took the slimy, cold seeds and dispersed them around our garden’s planters. Come Spring, we may find a bumper crop on our hands!
