This week the children have been learning about the Lunar New Year, or the Chinese New Year. Culminating in a celebration on Friday, the children have been telling the Chinese Zodiac Story, creating dragon costumes, creating red decorations and baking their favourite treat…chocolate bubble bread!
We have learnt that red is an important element of celebrations, with its connotations of good fortune for the year ahead. We have learnt that cleaning is vital before celebrations to ensure all negativity and dirt is removed before the new year…and that any bad luck or baddy can be chased away by the fierce but definitely good Chinese Dragon!
We retold the Zodiac story, before conducting our own Dragon dance and music… with enough drumming and commotion to ensure all bad luck will have been chased far from Thornton Heath!
