St Patrick and Spring time Sun!

Monday saw St Patrick’s day and celebrations of all things Irish; from our very own Early Years Educator Jackie, to Irish soda bread which was prepared and baked during group time.

Our “Bubble Bread” yeast was killed off by a forgetful teacher some weeks ago, so group time on Tuesday was dedicated to getting some new yeast growing. With cultured yogurt, warm milk, a spoon and a glass the children got busy. Hopefully by next week we should have some bubbly yeast and Thornton Heath’s youngest bakers will be back in business.

As the sun shone, the woodwork bench was in action. Fine motor exercise, safe handling of tools and equipment, counting up of nails, lids and fittings…along with the social aspect of working alongside each other…all important elements of this curriculum enriching activity.

Our tomato and sunflower seeds have germinated in our sunny, sheltered “Nursery within the Nursery”…no sign of the “Red Hot Chillies” yet. Watch this space for updates!
