This week, the woodwork bench was out on the new decking area. Out in the open air there was no need to worry about being a noisy neighbour as the children adorned some authentic 19th Century Timber with some slightly more modern fixtures and fittings.
This activity provided our intrepid learners with a wonderfully cross curricular activity.
Planning was important in terms of creativity, but also practicality; which resources have we got? How can we achieve the goal? Do we need to adjust our plans accordingly?
There was some frustration as fine motor skills were pushed to the limit, there were even some sore thumbs as we learnt when and where a more robust hammering technique is appropriate.
Washers, lids and nails were counted and sorted. Space was used safely and carefully. Friends were supported when struggles arose, as the children cooperated wonderfully.
There were cars with spinning wheels, aeroplanes and creations put together simply for the challenge and visually interesting result!
Coach Debbie continued to push boundaries with an introduction to volley ball which was enjoyed by all.
With cold weather on the way, next week may see the BBQ being lit for a flat bread and sausage fest…will Thornton Heath’s youngest bakers be up to the challenge?
