With spring on the horizon, the children have begun work in the garden! With a fresh batch of sand delivered, last year’s sand has been incorporated into our digging area. This task required both planning and teamwork. Techniques were developed as barrows were manoeuvred, sand shovelled to be expertly blended into the soil… and impressively capacious holes dug. Some materials from The Blitz damaged houses of Thornton Heath often turn up: tiles and bricks… even the odd piece of china plate! All prove fascinating treasures to be washed and inspected by the children. Our digging area is an important feature of our setting; building both fine and gross motor skills. It provides an opportunity to build diplomacy and negotiation skills as the space needs to be used safely- we don’t dig with toys, but with professional metal tools! Social bonds are forged as we work together, learn from each other and laugh in the dirt together!
On Wednesday, the parents and carers joined us for National Read Aloud say. The photos speak for themselves, portraying the warmth created between youngsters and their carers as they share books together.
Friday saw NSPCC’S Number Day and a delightful array of children in Numerically inspired costumes. How wonderful!
