This week the children have been learning about growth. All children had the opportunity to plant a sunflower seed and over the next few months will help to care for them in our nursery’s garden.
The children began by writing their name on a label for their flower pot. Then they counted out ten stones and placed them in the base of their flower pot for drainage.
Next they filled their pot with compost before making a hole with their finger and placing a sunflower seed in it. Finally they learnt what a sunflower needs to grow by looking at an information sheet and using a watering can they gave their sunflower seeds their first drink.
The children learnt new words such as soil, seed and germinate. We look forward to having lots of beautiful sunflowers in our garden this summer!
