Old Mc Donald had a farm

This week the children have been looking at the different animals that are on a farm. The farm was set up on the floor so the children had space to move around. The children have been comparing the different sizes of the cows and sheep and been sorting them into categories, naming the animals and making the different animal sounds. They have also been watching video clips about the farm animals and they could see that different animals give us different produce, from the sheep’s wool to the cow’s milk. We have been discussing the different sounds the animals make and have been singing some favourite rhymes about the farm.

The children’s role play area has been a shop all week and the children have really enjoyed this. We have been able to play the role of a customer or a shop keeper. Through this play the children have been given the opportunity to use number and value language, practise counting and mark make as they create shopping and stock lists.

In messy play the corn flour/water mix was out. This provides texture that changes while you play from solid to liquid…and sometimes both at once! Some of the children were a little hesitant and chose to observe before having a go; using hands, tools and containers exploring states of matter, capacity and developing fine motor skills all at once!

Ladybird class have had a very busy week trying lots of different activities and making lots of mess, well done ladybirds for trying all these different things.
