I can see a rainbow

At the end of last week after many hot days we welcomed a gentle breeze for Thornton Heath’s hotly anticipated mini Olympics.  This meant a chance for the parents and carers to not only see their children in action, but to get involved themselves.  From the assault course to the climbing wall, the children were pushing boundaries as always; developing skill, resilience and sportsmanship. The parents were impressed as the children moved from station to station and followed instructions; ensuring a safe, fair and fun time was had by all! I would just like to say a big thankyou to all the parents of ladybird class for attending this event, as a practitioner I was so proud of all the children, they were all willing to ‘have a go’ and kept on trying.

This week our story is ‘The rainbow fish’ by Marcus Pfister. It is about a fish that has beautiful shiny scales and a plain fish asked him if he could have one and the rainbow fish refused. The rainbow fish wondered why all the other fish would not be his friend so he asked the wise old octopus. The octopus explained that if you don’t share others will not like or play with you, so the rainbow fish decided to share some of his shiny scales with the other fish and they all become friends.

This will help the children to understand why sharing and friendships are important. They have had the opportunity to do lots of different activities around the story this week, we have been able to incorporate maths, language, relationships and creativity this week and have been very busy and had lots of fun. We will continue the story next week as it is important that we read the same story for a while as this will help the children join in with some of the rhyming phrases and be able to fill in the missing words when the adult stops reading at certain points.
