This week saw a dragon dance its way into our garden. Chinese New Year celebrations have been ongoing throughout the week. The children listened to, retold and acted out the story of the 12 animals arguing over whom the New Year should be named after. We then wrote our names to show which animal was our personal favourite! The children crafted their own dragons, mixing the paints in our independent paint station to create just the right shades to compliment the layers of details glued and cut into our dragon heads. The dragons danced and the drummers played to frighten away the bad luck!
Part of our messy play this week was a tray of lentils and pasta, with a selection of tools. We used tongs, tweezers, spoons and our hands to pick up the grains to fill and empty different sized containers; a sensory experience of sight, touch and sound.
In the work shop this week decorations were created as well as several robots…in disguise. The children are growing more independent in selecting materials, adapting design ideas and putting their plans into action.
The children have been working in the kitchen this week. Preparing a snack for their friends requires understanding of good hygiene, fine motor skill and of course careful counting to make sure we have food for everybody to share.
There were no bubble flatbreads this week unfortunately, but the yeast is ready for next week!
